The wrong setting ?

Managed a pleasant day out with the hope of photographing a few birds ! Saw the birds, was just a shame my camera was on the wrong setting taking all pictures out of focus. This is the second time i have managed to move the dial from AV to M and need a routine as so to check it constantly, any ideas ? Still apart from that as i have said a pleasant day. Started off a Dane Bower and had good views of the new arrivals, a pair of Ring Ouzel's showed well around the stone chimney, Wheatears and Meadow Pipits were everywhere, Red Grouse were calling and Skylarks were singing. From there we headed over to Endon, near Leek for an overwintering Siberian Chiffchaff, but no sign so headed to Foremark Reservoir to take in the summer plumaged Red-necked Grebe, which showed well eventually but quite distant. Next stop was A52 Pit, Holme Pierrpont for the Adult drake Lesser Scaup, which again showed well but quite distant then it was back to Endon where we eventually tracked down the Siberian Chiffchaff along with a White Wagtail. A good day out but marred by my lack of camera etiquette, i will learn.

How do you tell the difference between a siberian chiffchaff and a normal one?

Fortunately this individual has been singing and calling, but in appearance was much paler, greyer and a more washed out bird

Thanks Jason! Now I know what to look for, they should be easy. I wonder why there's been so much debate about them being difficult to identify? It doesn't sound difficult from what you say.

Like i said, it isnt so difficult if they are calling and singing. That said there is still a lot of debate over true tristis and there id but without an individual being vocal then you could never really rule out Common Chiffchaff.
